Last Blog Entery

I will remember most how Mrs. Gerard read our read alouds. I also will remember how Mrs. Z gave us our spelling words in sentences that had to do with brownies. I will also remember all of our read alouds, The One and Only Ivan, The Fantastic Secret of Owen Jester, Malcom At Midnight, Buddy, The Candy makers, Because Of Winn-Dixie and The Tale Of Desperaux. I also loved having desks. I also will also remember how Mrs. Gerard brought in Ada.
I am most proud of our wax museum. And also our blogs. I’m also proud of our Lamprey river study. And of our civil war reading unit. And our Poetry Books

For middle school I am excited to have a locker. Also to have Ice Cream in the cafeteria. Also to have multiple teachers. And we will have teams, yay.I hope we will have many more projects to come!

wax museum

We have been working on our wax museum. I really enjoyed working on my report. I remember how hard it was for Laura to find her way around. I feel like the most challenges happened while I was working on my hamburger paragraphs. I am most proud of my poster. I am proud to have made my poster. At the wax museum lots of people pressed my button.
Laura Dewey Bridgman’s Life Despite her lost senses Laura explored her silent world through touch. She was born on October 21, in Hanover NH. Laura lost her hearing, eyesight, taste and sense of smell. She was unable to walk for a year and unable to sit up all day for another. Despite all that Laura loved pretty and fancy clothes and was often finely dressed herself. Her childhood was amazing considering her disabilities. Laura Bridgman faced a world of only touch. Her friends and family helped her to be courageous and strong. By 12 her name Laura Dewey Bridgman echoed everywhere she was that famous. Laura had gestures for her mom and dad and 8 siblings, Mary, Collina, (who died of scarlet fever) Addison, Milo, John, Mary, Frances and Ellen. She could only be controlled by being physically over powered, which her dad did easily. Laura’s teachers and friends helped her like Asa T. her 1st friend, Dr. Howe, Sarah W. and Oliver L. all whom were her teachers. As Laura grew she learned more and more in her confined world of touch. If you want to learn about why Laura was famous for her disabilities then you’re in luck! Laura was the first blind and deaf person to ever attend a regular school. She could write and talk by 20 years old. Her teachers were very eager to teach her English. Also she was a great writer. Her parents thought her best chance of being educated was at the Boston school, they sent her there 11 weeks before her 8the b-day. Stay tuned to hear more about Laura’s career as a blind and deaf learner. Laura copied peoples hand movements to help her along the way. Laura used to be able to see out of her right eye, but then she lost her sight completely. She learned how to sew and knit by feeling her mom’s hands. She used only touch to find things out which can get difficult at times. Laura had sounds for each of her friends. Laura was learning more and more in her silent world. As Laura grew up she grew more and more famous. The adult Laura knew Hellen Keller and Anne Sullivan. She could talk with her fingers better than her mouth. Laura was obsessed with good and evil people. Did you know that she was only quiet when she was alone? Laura had more and more surprises for her teachers and friends. Nearing the end of her life Laura had many of her teachers die. She needed raised print to read. Laura drew more attention than any other student at Perkins. She had 1,000’s of people visit her. Even though Laura feared dyeing she died peacefully in her sleep at age 59, and was buried in the Dana cemetery in Hanover New Hampshire. That’s Laura’s deaf blind life. I hope you learned some new facts about her and how amazing and brave she was.

Compost

Normally people don’t think about where there apple core goes after it’s thrown away, but they pile up after a while. Americans throw away enough garbage to fill 63,000 garbage trucks every day! That averages to 7 pounds per person per day! By using your kitchen waste to make compost you can reduce  the amount of global warming .  Compost is a way to stop those things from happening, also you can use compost to help your garden the amount of landfill waste. Composting at home for 1 year can reduce global warming. Not composting can kill critters who rely on compost to eat. Worried yet? Those are just a few ways not composting puts our life of green in danger!
You can use compost to fertilize your garden. Worms can help your compost help nature speed up the creation of hummus. Seeds from your compost can turn into trees, trees give of oxygen. By composting you can save energy and landfill space for stuff that needs to be thrown away. Composting can prevent dreadful things from happening to the environment.
Why not give composting a try? It can help the earth. Compost can be used as soil for your garden. Worms can help turn your compost into soil. Grass clippings can go in the compost instead of the trash. You can convince your friends to compost. So try composting it’s really easy and simple!
Try to convince people to compost, I do. I convince family and friends to compost. I bring a apple or pear to school for composting almost every day. I put my pear in the classroom for composting. I try to convince random people to compost. See, I've been working too! I hope this paper will convince you to change your ways and compost.

As a kid I feel we are the next generation. We don’t want to live in a world of litter and food that could be composted. Do we? Also I feel like don’t you want to live in a clean and healthy Environment? Our choices today affect the world tomorrow, we can help or destroy the world with our decisions. So please, you can help just get out there and give it a try!
